USMLE is the United States Medical Licensure Examination.
All medical graduates need to pass this test to be eligible to practice medicine in the United States of America. It evaluates your ability to apply medical knowledge, principles and skills to effective and safe patient care.
Check you eligibility to take the USMLE:
- All medical students enrolled in or graduated from a US or Canadian medical school leading to MD or DO degree that is accredited by the Liaison Committee of Medical Education (LCME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) respectively are eligible to take the USMLE.
- All medical students enrolled in or graduated from medical schools outside the US and Canada and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools are eligible to take the USMLE.
USMLE is a three-step examination:
You have to pass all the three steps of USMLE to be eligible to practice medicine in USA. Step 1 and 2 CK are examined in the United States and in some other countries. Step 2 CS and Step 3 are examined in the United States. Step 1 evaluates your knowledge in basic sciences. Step 2 CK evaluates your knowledge in clinical sciences. Step 2 CS evaluates your interaction and clinical skills on clinics and hospital situations. Step 3 is the final step and evaluates your ability of decision making in different clinical situations and how to apply your medical knowledge on real life.
